How to measure your laptop for a sleeve?
The first and the most important thing while buying a sleeve for your laptop is knowing the size of your laptop. And you do it traditionally with a measuring tape, of course, but you need to know some things.
However, if you know the exact dimensions of your laptop sleeve, you can actually ignore your screen size because it doesn’t take into account the extra bezels around the laptop. This will give you the actual dimension of your entire laptop. For example, I have a secondary Dell laptop with a 14.6″ screen but with the bezels, the actual size comes to 15.5″.
So, close the lid of your laptop, and measure the diagonal length of the lid from one end to another. Once you have the size, note it down.
You also need to measure the width, height, and thickness of your laptop. This, however, is easy because you simply put your tape across and measure the width while the thickness is not always important.
Now, for the depth. Simply, put the measuring tape straight from the top to the bottom, and note it down.
And while buying your sleeve, make sure that the dimensions of your laptop are always slightly smaller than the internal dimensions of the sleeve you’re buying, so that it fits comfortably.back to menu ↑
How to make a padded laptop sleeve?
You can also make your own padded laptop sleeves if you so want. Because sometimes, you just can’t find the right one. You just need the right materials for that one, especially for the padding that has the job of protecting your laptop.
You will need some linen fabric, some cotton fabric, some batting material (used to provide cushioning and insulation between the top and bottom layers of fabric), sewing threads, measuring tape, and all those essentials.
Now, I cannot possibly describe the step by step tutorial for making a padded laptop sleeve, but there are tons of DIY Tutorials and videos out there, so be sure to check them out on YouTube.back to menu ↑
Which Brands make the best laptop sleeves?
Now, if you are really looking to buy a laptop sleeve, there will be tons of them to choose from in the market. However, there are some that are the most preferred brands out there. Make sure to look out for these brands:
- Kade Spade

Do you need a laptop sleeve when you already have a laptop backpack?
If your laptop backpack has a padded compartment that is dedicated for storing a laptop, you may get away without buying a laptop sleeve for your laptop. It may be too redundant.
However, there are two things you will need to keep in mind. First, make sure that you only carry our laptop with a backpack on.
It’s not rare to see people skip laptop sleeves and later drop the laptop-naked, which ultimately costs hundreds of dollars in repair.
The other thing you will need to look into is the thickness of the padded compartment on your laptop bag. Laptops are heavy and a minor padding wall may not be sufficient to provide enough protection to protect your laptop from having dents. If your laptop backpack doesn’t have padding on all the four corners, it’s a good idea to invest in a laptop sleeve. And if money is your concern, you can get away with a cheap AmazonBasics laptop sleeve too. It is way better than having no protection at all.
